He worked as Project Scientist at Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Dehradun and Dean (Research) at one of the reputed Engineering College, Coimbatore. He is an active member of various Government bodies and recipient of Fellow of Society of Earth Scientist (SES), India.
Dr. V. C. Thakur a Padma Sri Awardee – 2018, who has completed M.Sc. in Punjab University and Ph.D in Imperial College of Science and Technology, London. He is a well-known Geologist particularly in Himalayan studies. He is a former Director of Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Dehradun and CSIR Emeritus Scientist. He is a recipient of Fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences and National Mineral Award.
